You cannot escape the pull of gravity. According to theoretical physicists, gravity is responsible for keeping the natural order stable (anything with mass is organized by it – including atoms, planets, galaxies, and kittens). Today, we’re here to tell you that you cannot escape the pull of genetics. Gravity is to physics what genetics is to biology: i.e., the foundation, the blueprint, the ultimatum. Genes are made of DNA and control your cells. Genes keep living organisms functioning & processing information.
Enter cancer, the emperor of all maladies. It’s a word used to describe haywire genetic programming that causes the body’s cells to multiply aggressively, wreaking havoc on the surrounding anatomy. It’s a word that translates to “Crab” [Latin] on account of how cancerous tissue looks like one inside the body as it spreads around. It’s a disease state that strikes fear into the minds of those that hear it. In fact, cancer has been terrorizing people and even dinosaurs for millions of years.

So how may you avoid being terrorized by cancer personally? If you’re one of the many patients with genes that predispose you to cancer from birth, avoiding it might be out of the question. It has been written into your cells’ instructions and may form in your body as surely as the apple falls from the tree. It can be pre-determined just like the color of your eyes. Fortunately, these hereditary (inherited) cases of cancer are way less common than cases of cancer that patients acquire through years of unhealthy living. These latter clinical scenarios constitute the vast majority of cancer diagnoses 🙁
Given these numbers, you don’t need to be an epidemiologist to extrapolate that avoidance of known cancerous risk factors has a strongly preventative effect. Most folks can’t be blamed for not knowing how to avoid these risks. However, if you’re reading this and don’t go on to spread preventive education among your loved ones – especially those who may be older than you – then there is indeed an element of fault. At the very least you should attempt to convince them of the power of prevention.
Although we cannot tell for sure right now whether any given person will develop a malignant (potentially invasive – able to spread around the body from its site of origin) tumor during his or her lifetime, we have amassed a ton of evidence over the decades showing that certain lifestyle decisions and behaviors are strongly correlated with developing them. Of these, you can probably already identify tobacco-smoking, alcohol-drinking, and morbid obesity as known causes of cancer. Avoiding alcohol/tobacco in conjunction with balanced dieting and regular exercise already represents most of what you can do to avoid the common cancers that plague humanity.
I wrote this article to tell you about other measures to take to maximize your chances of avoiding cancer. This is because there are other strong correlations between cancer and risk factors involving choices that you make every day, all the time. Those are less well known, but fortunately for you, Saigal Clinic is here to deliver a brief, high-powered educational session in cancer avoidance starting right now:
Cancer is a genetic disease, which means that it’s caused by damage to your genes. To attempt to avoid cancer means to identify known risk factors causing genetic damage, because this damage is what will lead to the cellular, tissue, and organ-level changes in the body that constitute a malignant tumor (i.e. cancer). Once you identify them, avoid them and pursue healthy behaviors instead. Our YouTube video Prevent Cancer! lists sunlight/radiation exposure and specific viral illnesses (e.g. HIV, HPV, etc.) with known associations to different cancers. Protection from UV, Xray, and Gamma radiation along with regular hygienic habits can help you avoid these.

On the bright side, we live at a time in which most of these tumors are either benign (not that harmful) or easily detectable. Finding early cancer forming in your body usually means that you are able to intercept the disease in an otherwise healthy person. If you are unable to prevent it arising in your body simply by trying your best to be healthy, you can still participate in routine medical screening to make sure that if you do have cancer, it is caught early, treated early, and therefore meaningless to you. We as medical professionals strive for the day when a diagnosis of cancer really isn’t that big of a deal and can be managed chronically. It will be really cool when we can just zap it away with an injection or beam.
Power yourself with fruits, vegetables, lean protein sources, aerobic exercise, and plenty of water. The nutrients and physiologic changes associated with the above measures are strongly preventive of cancer and metabolic disease in general (e.g. high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes). Practice good hygiene, avoid prolonged sunlight & excessive CT scans, hang out with plenty of people who care about you, and don’t forget to laugh and sleep a lot. Unless you have other medical conditions or make extremely unhealthy decisions with regularity, you can use this article as a general outline of how to best max out your odds of avoiding cancer.
